This article explains how much a student will be charged in the first month when a staff member manually assigns a membership, as well as how to handle proration.
1. What Determines the First-Month Charge?
The amount charged in the first month depends entirely on the Initial Payment you enter.
Example Setup:
•Initial Payment: $89
•Autopay Amount: $199
In this case:
•First month charge = $89
•Second month onward = $199 per month
If you want to charge both the registration fee and first month together:
•Enter $288 as the Initial Payment
•Set the first autopay date for the following month
This creates a clean and easy billing cycle for parents.
2. Recommended Billing Structure (Most Common)
Option 1 — Registration Fee + First Month Upfront
•Enter full amount as Initial Payment
•First autopay starts one month later
Why schools prefer this:
•Parents understand it more easily
•Billing stays consistent every month
3. Registration Fee + Tuition Starts Today
Option 2 — Charge Registration Fee Only
•Initial Payment = registration fee
•Autopay begins today
Used when the school wants billing to begin immediately.
4. Does MAS9 Support Prorated Billing?
Currently, MAS9 does not automatically prorate membership fees.
Workarounds:
Option A — Manual Proration
Adjust the Initial Payment amount to represent the prorated amount.
Option B — Align Billing Date Manually
•Charge the Initial Payment you want
•Set the first autopay date to the 1st of next month
•All future payments will follow that cycle
Proration is planned for a future update.
